Needling

Transversely insert the needle to a depth of 0.5 to 0.8 cun.

EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) for dizziness

The patient is instructed to lie on the Stomach. Use sterile acupuncture needles, 0.28×40mm in size. After regular disinfection, locate EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) and insert the needles into the points towards GV 20 (Baihui), 10 degrees to the scalp, to a depth of 0.5 to 1 cun. Twirl and rotate the needles to achieve the arrival of qi (De Qi), then retain the needles for 30 minutes. The treatment is performed every other day.

EX-HN 1 (Sishencong), a group of four extra points at the vertex, 1 cun respectively posterior, anterior and lateral to GV 20 (Baihui), is where yang qi gathers at the vertex. These points can be applied to boost yang qi of the whole body, benefit the eyes and ears, raise clear yang and treat vertigo. The Formulas from Benevolent Sages Compiled during the Taiping Era (Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang) states that inserting needles into EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) to a depth of 0.3 cun can expel wind in the head and treats vertigo, mania, and epilepsy. The anatomical location of EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) is in the galea aponeurotica, around where nerves and arteriovenous network are located. Needling the EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) can improve the blood circulation and increase the blood flow in the brain, which improve the supply of blood and oxygen in the brain. Clinically, needling EX-HN 1 (Sishencong) has produced very good curative effects on cervical vertigo.
